The Institute of Chemical Engineering – BAS and The Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology– BAS are marking the 40th anniversary of the Institute of Chemical Engineering – BAS with the 3rd Symposium ‘Challenges in Chemical and Biochemical Technologies and Environmental Protection’ and the 19th Workshop ‘Transport Phenomena in Two-Phase Flow’
From 5 to 8 September 2026, the Grand Hotel Velingrad will host the 3rd Symposium on ‘Challenges in Chemical and Biochemical Technologies and Environmental Protection’ and the 19th Workshop ‘Transport Phenomena in Two-Phase Flow’, organised jointly by the Institute of Chemical Engineering and the The Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
This year’s edition of the scientific forum is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Chemical Engineering – BAS. For the first time, the event is being organised jointly with The Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology – BAS, which broadens its thematic scope and encourages interaction between specialists in the fields of chemical engineering, biotechnology, microbiology and environmental sciences.
The conference will bring together academics, lecturers, researchers, engineers, PhD students and industry representatives, who will present the latest scientific findings and technological developments, exchange professional experience and discuss the current challenges facing chemical and biochemical technologies, process engineering and sustainable development.
The scientific programme covers a wide range of topical areas, including:
modelling and simulation of industrial heat and mass transfer processes;
chemical processes and technologies;
bioprocesses and biotechnologies;
separation technologies;
absorption and adsorption processes;
chemical and biocatalysis;
environmental protection;
green technologies, energy resources and energy efficiency;
transport phenomena, two-phase and multi-phase flows;
intensification of heat and mass transfer processes.
The forum is one of the initiatives through which the Institute of Chemical Engineering – BAS is marking its 40th anniversary. The symposium and workshop continue the institute’s long-standing tradition of promoting scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and links between science and industry.
